If you still are not using Pinterest, take a look at the below easy steps to get started. It can greatly benefit your business or online endeavor.
What is Pinterest for?
Its name says it all. Pinterest is about “pinning” (like using a pin on a corkboard/bulletin board) or marking objects of personal interest that you can find through images on the internet. The goal is to “bookmark” something with just a click, so you can reference it at any point, together with similar items you added to the same board.
Each topic is one category
For example, let’s imagine your interests are diverse items such as “sandwiches”, “yoga”, “civil engineering” “famous quotes” and “the Beatles”. When you are on the internet and find things about sandwiches, you can bookmark them and they will stay registered on your Pinterest account, specifically on your “sandwiches board”. If you are going to make or sell sandwiches, you can upload a recipe with a photo (from your blog or website) and share it in Pinterest. If other Pinterest users like your sandwich recipe, they may pin it to their board. This could result in your image getting a lot of exposure and additional traffic driven to your website.
Do the same with the other topics. Create a category or board for each topic you have interest, and bookmark the photos and links in its respective boards. Each photo will link to an article, news or blog post about “yoga”, “civil engineering” “famous quotes” and “the Beatles”,
Now, it’s time to start taking advantage of Pinterest following these 8 steps:
1. Start an Account
Create an account on Pinterest. This can be accomplished in less than a minute with your name, last name, email address and password. If you have a Facebook account, there will be less clicks and everything will be faster.
2. Create Boards (Categories)
Create boards or categories, one for each topic of your interest. For example, you can start creating five boards: Sandwiches, Yoga, Civil Engineering, Famous Quotes, and The Beatles.
In the space on the top left (search box), write your topic, like “Sandwich” and you will see in the results hundreds of photos linked to articles, recipes and news about sandwiches. You can bookmark your favorite ones by clicking of the heart icon (this means you “like” someone’s Pin) or clicking “Pin it” to share with your contacts. Also, you can email a Pin that you like to a friend.
4. Be creative
Be creative in your search. If you search directly for “Civil Engineering” you may not have interesting results. In this case, try to be more specific by searching on “bridges” or “highway interchange” instead.
5. Download apps
Download the Pinterest applications if you are using smartphone or tablet and get the “Pin it” button for your internet surfing from a desktop or laptop computer.
Create your network with people similar to you en the categories you like. Follow other people, make comments, click on the heart icon for liking other people’s photos and share with your contacts by clicking the “Pin it” button. Finally, integrate Pinterest with other social media channels.
7. Generate content
Besides being a user of Pinterest, you can also be a content generator, but you need to have a website or a blog. Build content pinning photos from your own website or blog. Don’t forget to add descriptions to each photo, and Pinterest will be in charge of adding the link to your post or page automatically.
8. Promote and sell
Whatever internet activity you may have, either selling a product, offering a service or writing a blog about family, sports, music, history or any topic, Pinterest is an excellent tool for you. By sharing the content of any of your posts or pages in Pinterest, you will generate more traffic for your site and increase your sales.
